Troubleshooting

The first step to troubleshooting scanner issues is to make sure that you are trying to connect to the proper scanner: Canon DW-M140. There are a multitude of scanners throughout KKI but this is the only scanner supported for KKI’s Epic instance.

Scanner Redirection

The next step is to right click the scanner redirection icon and make sure that the scanner is actually identified by the Horizon agent by validating that the DR-M140 scanner is on the list and it has a check mark next to it.

NOTE: ****Any time you are checking for availability of a device in the Horizon Client settings or in the System tray for Com Port or Scanner redirection information, you must have an active Hyperspace session. Horizon will not allow pass through to take place until the application is launched. It will appear that the device is disconnected or will not show in the list of available USB devices****

Scanner Redirection Continued..

If scanner is on the list of scanners but un-selectable and the driver is installed, you need to check that the horizon client is not redirecting the scanner as a USB device and not using Horizon’s scanner redirection protocol. You can validate by opening the Horizon client and clicking the gear and selecting the USB devices tab. If it is, disconnect that device by highlighting it and clicking disconnect.

Validate Scanner Functioning

to validate that the scanning function is inoperable throughout the entire Hyperspace console and not simply Onbase storage issues:

1.       Log into Epic Hyperspace

2.       Navigate to the “Appts” tab

3.       Choose a recent patient

4.       Click in the circle with the photo of the patient

5.       Click the Acquire button and see if the DW-M140 printer is available and click scan.

6.       If scanner functionality is started by this process, the issue most likely lies with the Epic application and not the KKI scanning redirection, software, or hardware.
